A researcher, writer and photographer from Perth, Western Australia who has a passionate interest in people’s stories and their family histories.
Not surprisingly I have spent some years compiling my own family tree which now has in excess of 1200 ancestors. I particularly enjoy interviewing and conducting the research which unearth’s family members and the contextual history which gives life to the time and place that family members lived.
My relatives are primarily from Ireland, Scotland and northern England and immigrated to Queensland and Victoria from the mid 1800s, fleeing famines and generally poor living conditions for the working class in the United Kingdom. I love the mosaic of information that I have collected in interviews, by conducting on line research and going through old family documents and photos stored in attics and in old albums.
When I write, I enjoy emerging myself in the time and place of the person being researched. With this information the family story gains colour and provides an overview of where we come from in a written and visual form.
